2011's most popular song

Is Why this Kolaveri, according to CNN.

Well they did make a good point- like how the song got 20+ million views in under a month, how it's spawned hundreds of imitations (including a chipmunk version), and how "Why this Kolaveri" is the top search result if you searched for the word "why" on youtube.

Ok strong reasons. But really? Song of the year?

I admit I find it catchy- and parts of it do resonate (hand-la glass-u, glass-la scotch-u, eyes full-a tears-u etc. etc.) and it'll be cool if Kolaveri wins a grammy next year.

What about you. Do you think Kolaveri deserves the title of "Song of the Year"?

Ha, just checked this out today morning after all the fuss on tv - the dude was made to meet the visiting Japanese PM because the song is so popular there! Gotta admit its catchy and pretty cool to see stuff like this happening in India- going viral, etc. With a population of over 1.2 billion here and more NRI's all over, anything popular in India will understandably top world rankings too so I wouldn't give it much thought. I'm more gutted that I don't even have an official 2011 top 5 for best song - I've just completely ignored my music-scouring habit this year and listened to old faves on repeat. Shame on moi.

@IcyHighs-- I can sympathise with the listening to old favourites on repeat. I've pretty much done that for much of this year. I briefly took my head out of my retro cocoon to listen to Rahman's Rockstar, and went back into blissful oblivion again. Kolaveri however is like a friggen force of nature. ;)

@CY- why this kolaveri da?
